Reset, Re-Lock, Re-Load
Well, things have quieted down quite a bit around the office after heading up my company's major server upgrade a couple of weekends ago.
I never did make it to the Rockford half-marathaon, and never ran the 13 miles I was training for... come to think of it... I haven't had a serious run since May 10 either.
I spent a good part of the holiday weekend just relaxing, and refocusing on my goals for the summer. I've taken the past two weeks off of running to prepare myself for the training involved in running the August 10 Chicago Distance Classic half-marathon, which will then carry me to the Chicago Marathon in October.
I'll be jump starting my training again with a total of 18 miles planned through next weekend.
I'm eager to spend a lot of time enjoying the outdoors this summer. To date, I have camping trips planned to Kettle Moraine State park, Wi., Devils Lake, Wi., and the Wisconsin Dells with many more to come. I leave for Kettle Moraine on Friday.
I hope you are all doing well, and I'll be sure to post from my upcoming trip!

The Monster Awakens

So as I mentioned in my previous post, I've been spending the past few days, and many hours, heading up a new server migration for my company.
The new machine is the one with the terminal resting on its front.
I must say it's been pretty impressive so far, not to mention stressful.
Wouldn't want to send everyone home on Monday :-)

Waiting for the stars to align
Well, it doesn't look like the stars are lining up for me to make it to the Rockford marathon on Sunday for my 13 mile race.
I'm in the middle of my company's enormous server upgrade this weekend that will have me working some long hours tonight (Friday) and possibly through Sunday.
Of course the project wasn't supposed to happen this weekend, but the hardware is needed now more than ever, and we're moving quickly on it.
I supposed that's OK, though. I've barely slept all week, I've been eating like crap, and I haven't kept very loose for the 13 miles I'm supposed to do. That, and the window for picking my race packet up in Rockford before Sunday is getting smaller and smaller- no race packet, no run.
If things go well Saturday at the office, perhaps I'll do 13.2 miles in the city somewhere on Sunday and time myself- just for fun.
Next, I have the the Chicago Distance Classic half-marathon on August 10 before the Chicago Marathon, but I'm sure I'll squeeze in a small race or two before then.
See you all when I next come up for air!

So now I rest
See more photos of my run on my Flickr.
Since May 2nd of this month, here is the breakdown of my training so far for Rockford:
May 2: 2.5 miles
May 3: 10 miles
May 7: 8 miles
May 8: 2.5 miles
May 10: 11 miles
Total: 34 miles
I'm tired.
My legs have been constantly sore this past week leading up to today. My mileage has increased from running 12 to 16 miles a week to over 25 in preparation for the half-marathon. Still, I'm happy with my accomplishments. It wasn't until my last 11 mile training run that I started to feel a painful twinge in my left knee, but I think it had to do with me being all tensed up and not pacing myself correctly. Once I relaxed near mile 5, the rest of my run was pain free- for the most part anyway.
Running with sore leg muscles is insanely difficult, especially when the runs are on consecutive days. I don't think I'm hydrating properly, or stretching enough on my rest days to counter the soreness. The tiredness goes away once I'm 2 to 3 miles into my run, but it's the start that is freakin' painful. I can't imagine how the road to 26.2 miles and the Chicago Marathon is going to be. I better stop whining about it while I'm ahead, I guess.
So now I rest. Next week I only run a total of seven miles to stay loose, and to keep fresh for Sunday. I'm traveling to Rockford the day before, and staying at a local hotel since the start time is 7 a.m.
On a side note: My trip to Rockford may be in jeopardy since finding out I will have to work on Saturday to install this beast - part of a major system upgrade my company is doing. Even if I don't make it on Sunday, I'll be OK with it. My journey to running Chicago will be long, and I have a lot of time left until October. I'll just keep going.
See you soon, my friends.

Indiana, oh Indiana
I'm at my company's Indiana offices the latter part of this week to meet a couple of the other IT Network Admins we've brought on since our recent acquisitions. The weather has been beautiful here as of late, despite the occasional rain storms that keep popping up.
I've got another busy week ahead, and lots more running to do before Rockford on the 18th! It's coming up fast!
More soon...
