Pics of new Treo 755P in the wild

Engadget has a few photos of the (alleged) new Sprint Palm Treo 755P!!! It's (alleged) to be due out in May or June as my 700P supposedly goes end-of-life in May of this year.

I'm going to miss grabbing a hold of my phone's antenna when I reach for it in my pocket... tsk... tsk...

The Auditors are here!

I've been super busy at the office... not much time to write in here so far this week. Take a moment to read through my Shared Feed Clips along the right side there... these are stories I've run in to that are kind of interesting.

Soon.

I'd rather be fishing

I said this same thing around this time last year and never followed through with it.

I hope to do a lot more fishing this year. Perhaps I can skip by one of the local lakes after work. It's a great way to unwind (and a nice excuse not to go to the gym!).

I have a feeling it's going to be a busy summer, though. Lidia and I are planning a couple of weekend outings this year which will make up for what we didn't do much of last year, which was to enjoy the outdoors a little more.

This past week has been a bit crazy. As I mentioned in a previous post, my company's recent acquisition of a company twice our size is presenting quite a few challenges for me as the one responsible for our computer network.

I have a feeling I'll be doing quite a bit of traveling in the coming weeks.

I've also got some Treo stuff cooking, which I hope to post soon!

'Til next time.

To Mac or not to Mac

So I'm in the market for a new home computer. Last year, I spent ridiculous amount of money for ONE stick of computer memory by a brand they don't even make anymore in the hopes of speeding it up a bit. It just isn't having it anymore.

I've maxed the 80 gig hard drive, loaded WAY too many USB toys on it, installed a TV tuner, paired it with a shiny new Xbox 360, and on and on. Even after doing a complete wipe and reinstall of the operating system late last year, it just isn't having it anymore. It's slow and some hardware is starting to fail.

The question is.... do I jump to the 'dark side' and get a Mac? Or a shiny new Windows Vista PC? Should it be a laptop or a desktop?

My top things this new box MUST do:
  • iTunes and music
  • image management (photos- lot's of 'em)
  • play nice with xbox 360
  • wireless networking
  • play nice with my Palm Treo phone
  • fast!
We shall see...

Staying Connected with Mergic VPN

I've been enjoying an extended weekend off of work this Thursday and Friday. I've had a hefty workload at the job as of late, so it's nice to step away for a couple of days.

I have complete confidence in my team taking care of any problems that may come up while I'm gone, but there can be a few things I'll need to get involved in from time to time when I'm away.

I always have my trusty laptop with me should I need to use it in an emergency, but when it's tucked away in the trunk of my car, my Treo 700P connects me to my network at the office should an emergency come up.

The two Palm apps that are critical for this to happen are Mergic's MergicVPN and the open source PalmVNC client. MergicVPN allows me to make a secure VPN connection to my office network, allowing me to control my office PC with the PalmVNC client loaded on my Treo.

PalmVNC is free while MergicVPN is $29.99 with a free 15-day trial. Both are Palm OS apps.

The configuration for both apps is fairly easy once you plug in the proper firwall and VPN information. The two work seamlessly and quickly together over Sprints high-speed data network. I am able to immediately see the desktop of my office PC once MergicVPN registers itself with my office VPN server. The screen refreshes itself rather quickly, and I'm able to use the mouse with a combination of key presses and my stylus.

Fortunately, I haven't had to use it an emergency yet, but it's nice knowing I can connect anytime, anywhere.

treonybbles.com is official!

I've grown quite attached to the name I gave this blog- treonybbles- so I dove in and registered the domain name!

I specifically named it that because I've mostly been posting to it using my phone. And I occasionally enjoy writing about this wonderful device on here.

So you can now get to this site using http://www.treonybbles.com or the usual http://jessejstreet.blogspot.com

Curious as to what a 'nybble' actually is? Read more about it here.

Holy Time Zones Batman

Oh I do miss this blog... I keep telling myself I'm going to get on here regularly 'cause I miss doing so- I'm really going to try!

I've been spinning my wheels for the past few weeks getting the computer's ready for the new Daylight Savings time changes at my workplace. We've got a little over 300 of them done, but I'm sure they'll be some stragglers this coming Monday! Not to mention Microsoft has pages and pages of documentation on this problem alone, so it hasn't been a piece of cake. I got a decent head start on everything, so I hope it will be painless.

On top of all of that, my company has gone public, which only triples the amount of work ahead of me. I've been taking quite a bit of work home with me lately. Things are good, though, and it should be a busy summer.

Can't wait.
